Thanet Villa
is surrounded by Pine, Oak and Deodhar trees over 200 years old.
The famous Gurney House where Col. Jim Corbett stayed is behind
our Villa. There have been occasions when leopards have come close
to the Villa to sunbathe. The area surrounding the Villa has over
50 varieties of birds, numerous species of butterflies, flying foxes,
rabbits, monkeys (langurs) - it is truly a nature lovers paradise.
The Villa has its own running
spring water, the Dining Hall has attached personalized kitchen
and the luxury suites have bathrooms with geysers. Ample car parking
facilities with subsidized accommodation provided for drivers or
maids. About 100 meters from Thanet Villa you need to drive on first
gear. The entire area has exotic trekking and picnic spots.
The world famous school Sherwood
College is closeby which boasts of such distinguished alumni like
Maj Somnath Sharma (India's first Param Vir Chakra winner). Field
Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and Amitabh Bachchan.
Thanet Villa has extremely
secure surroundings with the Group N.C.C. (Army and Navy) HQ in
our premises and I.G. Police (Kumaon Division) as neighbours.
Thanet Villa is perched on
a hill which has surroundings that beckon you for romantic walks-bridle
ways untouched where you hear the whistle in the woods, fragrance
of pine trees - so refreshing and relaxing.
From Thanet Villa you get
a panoramic view of The GOMPA on the opposite hill, a religious
order of Dalai Lama which has numerous colourful flags, the Aerial
Ropeway going up to Snow View from Mallital, and China Peak (Pronounced
Cheena).
We have a lot of flat land
which is ideal for pony rides, decorative swings to relax, hammocks
to laze around. You could meditate, do yoga or simply relax. The
kids can pitch tents and have a camp out ! Indoor activities like
Chess, Scrabble, Carrom and outdoor sports Badminton, Soft Ball
Cricket, Football, Basketball are available.
The evenings are for a bonfire,
where you strum your guitar and sing antakshri! The feeling from

The famous Tibetan Market
where goods from Nepal and China are sold and the traditional mithai
'Bal Mithai' is a local delicacy. Nainital has a fantastic range

Within Panoramic Kumaon lies the enchanting district of Nainital
(former summer capital of Uttar Pradesh). Its verdant valleys, rolling
meadows and crystal lakes have beckoned nature lovers time and again.
Dotted with enchanting lakes, Nainital has earned the epithet of
'Lake District' of India. The most prominent of these being the
Naini Lake enriched by 7 hills and named after the goddess Naina
Devi.
Mr. Traill was the first Britisher
to have visited Nainital sometime in 1823 when as Commissioner of
Kumaon and Garhwal (1817-1836) he did his first field survey. Mr.
Barron is also credited with the discovery of Nainital in 1841.
The motorable road between
Kathgodam and Nainital built in 1915, has two bypasses at Hapur
& Moradabad. Rail link to Kathgodam was operational in 1882.
In 1985 the Ropeway in Nainital was commissioned.
